Champions of Change Management... The lighter side of Change Management 08-23

Change Management is a topic that is taught to the students of MBA, Engineering and other graduation courses. Students learn with interest Change Management only to forget it immediately after the completion of their course.

Demonetisation in India taught the Indians a totally different kind of change management. Rs.2,000 denomination notes were introduced, but you couldn't use the note unless you purchased something worth that amount. New Rs. 500 notes had not been introduced and Rs. 100 notes had gone scarce. Two years later, although India has recovered from the trauma, indelible scars are still visible.

However, this article is not about Demonetisation, and was written much earlier. It is about a different kind of Change Management. Now the article...

There are some champions of Change Management who not only learn change management through their profession, but implement it throughout their life time. And surprisingly they are neither students nor the management professionals. They are not  even entrepreneurs.

I interviewed the following people (just imagination) and lo!!! I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity of the output.

Bus Conductor / Operator

A Housewife

A Beggar

Let us conduct an imaginary interview with them and find out from them their expert view on change management. Let us imagine what each one of them say about change management.

We start with the Bus Conductor....

Bus conductor

"Oh yes, Change Management is a great art which you master it with experience."

"There are lot of factors involved in it. You need to be very careful and balance every step.

You should master the art of correct balance between taking and giving change. If you give too much of the change too liberally and too frequently, you are not left with any no change when you have to give change to the genuine passengers.

Yes there are genuine passengers and not so genuine passengers, who would have change but pretend that they don't have it. You need to distinguish and discern between the two. These things of course come with experience. Change Management as I told you is a tough challenge for us. That is why even Mahatma Gandhi stressed the importance of change when he said.."

"KEEP THE CHANGE YOU EXPECT FROM OTHERS."

I was shocked. I never thought Mahatma Gandhi could be so grossly misinterpreted. We have often seen politicians doing it, but a bus conducter, well! it was unimaginable.. He however he was happy, that he had presented himself as an intelligent being. Few other conducters who had gathered around us and were listening to our conversation nodded their head in appreciation.

"But you also have problems when you don't give the change to the commuters. Your bag becomes heavy and messy and the biggest problem is, when you deposit the cash at the office, the staff wouldn't take change, they insist on larger denomination currency."

"So as I said, Change Management is a delicate art and you learn it by experience." he concluded.

I thought that it was much more than what I could take, so I thanked him and excused myself.

Next we move to the most important net-worker between the religions and the great evaluator of the changes in the society "The Beggar"

The Beggar

I went to a place of worship and selected a senior graying begging professional and told the purpose the of my visit. He not only understood Change Management, but also agreed to share his perspective on the subject.

Let us hear him.

"Change Management is an important aspect of our profession. We are the champions of Change Management. We can monitor and evaluate the change in the society better than what anyone else can do and we can also advice on the ways to channelize this  positive change for the betterment and upliftment of the society.  "

"Can you please enlighten me on that" I asked with a pretended humility.

"Yes why not" he said and added "You know that I am a senior begging professional, my charges will be higher for this management information, can you afford it?" “Yes" I said and settled the price.

He started in a very calm and confident manner with a saintly expression.

We have found a very positive change in society, more specifically in the youth in the recent times. Since our professional work takes us to the places of worship of all religions, we keenly observe the changes in thinking and the attitude of the people of different religions. Among men, among women and among the youth."

"From the amount and type of collection, we can even tell about the profession of the youth coming to religious place."

"We now get fifty and hundred rupee notes in our bowl. This shows that more of youth are coming to the temple. And recently we are getting more of larger denomination currency like 100 & 500 Rupee note. This indicates that more and more of software professionals are visiting places of worship. Previously we only had retired people visiting us and we had only coins of one two and five. After that middle aged employees  started coming and we started getting notes of ten and twenty rupee notes.

With this influx of youth, the value for the begging profession has increased. Educated unemployed youth are taking to this profession, because the monetary returns are as good as the one s in software industry and of course no pink slip. We are now auctioning the begging spots and new entrants are more than willing to pay a higher price.

We also conduct free orientation in begging technology for the new entrants.

About the Change Management

Now the youth seems to be getting more and more interested in religion and this change has to be managed positively by the elders and religious preachers in the society.

"How can you say that so confidently" I asked eager to hear more from him.

"Previously this young men and women used to discuss Boy/Girl friends, but now they are discussing the values in life, honesty in public life and about technology and management. The same people are sometimes seen at the worship places of different religions. this shows they are trying to understand the values in other religions and develop tolerence for all the religions.

"I feel when these people grow up and administer the country; they will give clean and principled governance without any communal hatred."  We can see the emergence of real "Incredible India" when people run the country."

"How do you think would the elders would react to the resurgence in thought process in youth" I asked inquisitively.

He said " They will have to give in to the change and be a part of the stream."

"There is  still lot more to discuss about change management, but my peek business time is approaching. Can you please come sometime next week with prior appointment; I will give two hours time.

I said “OK”, paid him more than the agreed amount and left a happy and satisfied man. Now I know where to go, if you want to know about the changes taking place in the society.

I next searched for a housewife, and found a middle aged lady standing outside the house and gossiping with the neighbor. I explained her everything and she readily agreed to contribute.

Let us hear her...

 A Housewife

“Yes it is tough. The way we housewives manage it, I don't think any other human species can do it. (Only Human Beings are into it, isn't it ? she asked not all that innocently, I was stumped, but still managed to say sheepishly "Yeah I think so, but I haven't evaluated this art in other species, hence I cannot authoritatively speak on this subject."

"How do you go about it?" I said taking the conversation further...

"It is vast subject, and it will take some time for you to understand"  she said and added     " why not we sit inside the house and discuss this over a cup of tea."

The lure of tea was so tempting that I did not notice the bait hidden behind it. And yes I fell for it.

We sat inside comfortably on sofa. She brought two cups and a big flask full of tea along with some snacks. She started her perspective of change management which consisted how she struggled to change the her in-laws, husband and relatives to her ways and how she succeed. She enumerated with minute details how her own sister drastically failed it this management.

"Then, how did she solve the problem" I asked curiously

"Oh, she changed the husband," she said nonchalantly. "The new husband is so good that he doesn't need any Change Management." she said showing a lot of relief in her voice.

Three hours passed by the flask was empty, and still she was not through. ...

"There is still a lot to discuss on this subject. Why don't you join me for lunch" she said...

"Bait, a second time" I thought,

This time I was careful, I excused myself saying that I had an important appointment to keep. I promised her to come next week with prior appointment.

I left the house with a resolve to myself that I will not visit that area for at least a year.

My god !!!!

She has changed my perspective of Change Management, I am lost.

Will someone please explain to me WHAT CHANGE MANAGEMENT IS ACTUALLY ALL ABOUT? And this time I would like a Management Professional to coach me.

Best wishes,

Shyam

Responsible Communication, That evokes interest and admiration 08-06

google-site-verification: googled8cb12c78271c415.html H_abxalAdC9Cg0xe3NtXHQ6qbrc

Communication is presented to people as a great skill. It is not a skill at all. It is inborn, innate character trait.

Even dead bodies communicate.

Rigor Mortis is a process that communicates and confirms the death of a person and the end of chemical and biological processes connected with life. The doctor declares the patient clinically dead. But certain chemical and biological processes continue even after death. With the  Rigor Mortis process, the body communicates the end of its biological existence. You can see it happening, with the stiffening of muscles and the body.

If tomorrow, some self-styled communication expert tells you that, you are a dead body or an inanimate thing if you don't communicate, tell the person that even dead bodies and inanimate things communicate.

Yes, they do…

The deafening silence of the valley, the silent whisper of the breeze, the constant back and forth movement of the sea waves all communicate something or other. The philosophers interact with them, The poets see ideas in their communication for their poetic creation. The artists and the authors weave astory out of their communication.

The great Urdu poet Sahir Ludhyanvi also believed that these beautiful parts of nature also communicated. If you understand Urdu, you will understand his beautiful lyrics.

Translation:

These valleys, This breeze is beaconing you.
The voices of silence are calling you.
The vivacious movements  of river are calling you.
The voices of silence are calling you.

Animals also communicate with one of their kind, they also communicate their fear or aggression, or empathy and compassion to other species of Animal kingdom.

Silence is a more effective communicator, than the spoken word. Dignified serene presence often outscores manufactured flamboyance. The syllable of silence is always more effective than the decibel of verbal communication.

An Audio-Video sync while communicating is good, but if your narrative and the actions are not in sync with your natural body language, your actions will be a distraction, and may even take away value from your discourse. And yes, nothing can beat the communications levels achieved when souls gets synched. Of course, it is more of an emotional activity, but your presence must be able to achieve that.

The effectiveness of your presence, depends on the way you are introduced to the audience . You should always write and give your presenter the introduction text, and request him to adhere to it. The prepared text should only speak about the  results & transformations, and as far as possible cut out on adjectives please...

This does not mean that it is all a path of roses. There are reversals too sometimes. Once in a while, when you communicate and expect to be admired, you find yourself mired instead. This happens mostly because of the circumstances on that particular day and may be due to some factors not going your way. Believe me, this is a temporary lapse and certainly not a case of your communications going rogue. Keep your confidence, next event will be normal as usual. You will come out with flying colours.

This long preface is just to stress the point that communication is not a skill, that is required to be imparted or learned imbibed. It is an inherent and ingrained character trait in every living being in some way or other.

All you need to do is just tweak it a little, and customize it to your personal or professional need. And next time when you are attending a communication skills class, just remember that you getting what you already have. Only your already filled glass is getting filled to the brim. It is only an addition, not creation.

The gist of what I have written in this article is that the communication is too specific an attribute to be treated in a generic sense. To effectively and efficiently communicate, we need domain specific skills.

We need domain specific communication experts to impart domain specific skills. Responsible communication skills emanate only out of the underlying domain expertise.
We must evolve ourselves to a stage where the communication skills are re-segmented under technical skills, not just Soft Skills.

Even people aspiring for leadership, need a performance, that speaks, based on robust domain Knowledge.

Here the technical linguistics, work better than the language linguistics, and convey a more impactful message. Even a silent demonstration of work, results in better imbibing of skills by the trainees. This also results in better and more impactful sharing of knowledge and intellect.

I am not against the imparting of communication skills. I want it to be upgraded to technical perquisite for the trainees.

Finally, I do not want the communication skills to be identified with the language proficiency, ability to gesticulate, outwardly visible buoyance, a forced extrovert outlook.

I feel articulation is more important than gesticulation.

Sedate seriousness can deliver better than outwardly visible buoyance.

An introvert need not wear a mask of extrovert behavior to communicate better.

Don’t we have the need to redefine, what actually communication skills are?????

Now with this new found confidence, please read rest of the article.

Responsible Communication, that evokes interest and admiration

There are many areas to look at in communication: a message is communicated through visual, vocal and verbal means. From that, comes the importance of body language, how we present ourselves, and so on. The visual and vocal elements are indeed very important to effective communication, but we will not touch on that here.

Rather, let’s look at why many people experience a challenge in communicating effectively from the verbal aspect:

1. Self-consciousness.

It’s often our own self-consciousness that makes us tongue-tied and awkward. We are so pre-occupied with what intelligent idea to share next, that we can barely concentrate on listening to and understanding the other party.

Then a great truth is that, – to be a good conversationalist, we simply have to be a great listener. We have to be genuinely interested in what the other person has to say, ask the right questions (because we genuinely want to know more) and presto, people will laud us as great communicators!
2. Non-empathy

The other block to good communication is non-empathy. We are sometimes so intent on putting our ideas across that we forget to be sensitive or empathic to the other person. Is the person in a rush, or does he or she have other matters on his or her mind?

A good example is when we want to sell an idea to our boss: is he or she rushing for another meeting? Or perhaps he or she has just got some flak from his or her boss or a customer and is simply in a lousy mood.

3. Lack of clarity

This comes from a lack of clarity in our thoughts as well as our verbal communication. It starts from our thoughts: are we quite clear in our minds what is the message we wish to convey? From there, we move on to effective choice of words. Some people may have a language problem: they may be thinking in their mother language, say Mandarin or Punjabi, and trying to express their ideas in a language they are not comfortable with, say English.

Learn to organize your thoughts. Before making an important presentation, list down the points you want to make in a logical sense. If language is a challenge, then I suggest you write your ideas down in proper sentences and ask a friend to go through for you. I’m not saying you should read from your paper or memorize the “speech” but just writing it down and reading it a few times will help you a great deal in putting your message across.

Many people think as long as they speak fluently, they are good communicators. Not so, as those of you who have had to listen to someone go on and on about themselves, will testify. They may be such eloquent speakers, and even entertaining at times, but there’s only so much we can take in a one-way communication. I’m sure some of you have been in a situation where you just wish you were somewhere else after 20 minutes!

The highest level of communication which I personally would strive for as a communicator is what is known as persuasive communication. This takes place when the person we are communicating with, 1) understands what we want to say, 2) feels what we are feeling and is then 3) motivated to take action on what we have said. Effective communication may stop short at (2); the listener may not necessarily want to do something about what he or she has just heard.

One skill that can help you move from effective to persuasive communication is that of asking questions. This is a powerful skill that once you have mastered it, will indeed help you see immediate results in your daily communication – be it sales, presentation of ideas, talking to your friends or simply getting your child to do what you want.

Best Wishes,

Shyam

IN CONVERSATION WITH SELF...

Where Knowledge fails, It is the Ignorance that creates path for Success!!! 08-06

google-site-verification: googled8cb12c78271c415.html H_abxalAdC9Cg0xe3NtXHQ6qbrc

Where Knowledge fails, It is the Ignorance that creates path for Success!!!

Derek Bok, the 25th President of Harvard, famously said: “If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.” What we need is more business education, not less!

“Try ignorance” though said in a different context has become more relevant in the present scenario. A leading Japanese multinational, which is into electronics and infrastructure, systematically, breeds high levels ignorance in their staff right from the stage of initiation, simultaneously imparting highest level of knowledge in the area of their work. I was surprised to find a senior Japanese technician totally ignorant about his company info like turnover, manpower count, he didn’t even know the name of his chairman. He innocently admitted that he only remembered the person he reported to, and people who reported to him. Yet he had contributed constructively to the infrastructural aspects of the power plants, his company built in many countries.

Now compare this to a senior executive from west. He will not only remember everything about his chairman (down to the scandals). He will give you all info (including personal) about other heads like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Warren Buffet et al.

Now how does it affect the performance? It does I feel

Now brain like any other data storage system has a fixed capacity for storage. You can only recall what is stored. If you store irrelevant stuff, you are left with a very limited space to store the stuff relevant to your work .It may be enough to carry you through normal times, but not during crisis situations. Japanese realized this early, and the results are there for all to see. A badly battered World War II country rose like phoenix to become the world’s leading economy within two decades.

Who is to blame?

Every one in the establishment, especially those in B-Schools. In order to make themselves relevant, they teach a lot of irrelevant things. A better part of my life has been spent making the students unlearn things not relevant their jobs.

“Mintzberg, a professor of management at McGill University, and a known B-School baiter says that the idea of a foundational education at or near the beginning of a managerial career is fatally flawed. It’s not called the “practice of management” for nothing, he says, and you can only learn the nuanced lessons of management by managing.”

He adds, “.You wouldn’t send a doctor out to practice without years of study; why a manager? Because most of the things a manager needs to know–whether that’s how to motivate people or assess a balance sheet–are context-specific, he says, and not universally applicable. Yes, a manager needs to understand the basics of finance, but that is best learned in a real-world setting. Furthermore, an MBA degree gives graduates a false sense of their capabilities, which can cause tremendous harm to an organization.”
It’s a strongly a contra view–but in this environment, one that suddenly seems a bit less radical.

Where is the solution?

Turn to east & orient; adopt their proactive ways of recruitment and training. Select specialists (Masters) in the related field, rather than management generalists. Impart job specific intensive customized training and keep updating their knowledge to get results. US multinationals in India have already started that practice they are picking students from high schools & undergraduate colleges and grooming them into successful executives. One of the US multinationals had tied up with a university to impart education customized to its job needs. It sponsored the education and absorbed the students after completion.
Either reform the B-School curriculum to make it industry or scrap them altogether.

You don’t need a MBA to create economic crisis. It should be focused towards effectively managing one.

Before concluding, I am tempted to narrate another incident about another senior Japanese techie. My friend wrote to this man to get a car stereo, whenever he came to India next. The man wrote back. “Ok I will get the car stereo, but what about the car.” It took a while for my friend to understand the message. Now the perception of the Japanese was, to get a car stereo, you had to buy a car, pluck the stereo out, and…. What to do with the car? Now he could be excused for the ignorance of the fact that car stereos were available separately in the market. Because this ignorance led to the expertise in his own field.

Best wishes,

Shyam

Text of Dr. Kalam's Speech at IIM Shillong 08-03

Address and Interaction with the participants of Creating a Liveable Earth

Session I, IIM Shillong, Jul 27 2015

How to make our planet more liveable?
Dear Friends,

This is the last speech delivered by Dr APJ Abdul Kalam at IIM
Shillong on 27 July 2015.

His last words are :

"The topic I have selected is: "Creating a Liveable Planet Earth". Dear friends,"

"The sustainable development enables the realization of green clean environment without pollution, having prosperity without poverty, peace without fear of war and a happy place to live for all citizens of the nations of the world".

Dear friends, I am delighted to be with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Shillong and address and interact with the students participating in this short course on Creating a Liveable Earth.

I am happy to know that the student present here are from a rich diversity of experience from various domains. My presentation and discussion, your thoughts, responses and their review, can in an integrated way, take the shape of a vision for an action plan for the course participants in various sustainable development system which can preserve and nurture the planet and its people.

I am confident that 12 groups of students might have worked on the 12 pillars of Creating a Liveable Earth for futuristic global civilizations. While doing these assignments, I am sure all of you would have realized what an interconnected world we all live in and how the future is a function of our actions today. I will be focusing now in exploring these connections, ideas and challenges. Our journey begins today where we will be analyze new avenues of global prosperity and peace, creative leadership needed for such a change and also the all important aspect of how to preserve and enhance our environment while all this happens.

The Indian Institute of Management, Shillong is amongst the new members in the institutional array of the Indian Institutes of Management, or IIMs, who are producing more than 2/3rd of India?s CEOs. You inherit a glorious lineage which has produced some of the finest brains and managers of the nation and even global arena.

The topic I have selected is: "Creating a Liveable Planet Earth".

Dear friends, the planet's biggest problem today is to do with sustainability, environmental decline, global poverty, disease, conflict and many other sideshows that go around them. These are all interconnected ? it is one big problem, which is that the way we are doing things, cannot go on. Sustainable development is an organizing principle for human life on a finite planet. It suggests a desirable future state for human societies in which living conditions and resource-use meet human needs without undermining the sustainability of natural systems and the environment, so that future generations may also have their needs met.

Dear friends, I would like to share with you one important aspect of Energy Independence, which means complete energy security with freedom from fossil fuel. 86 % of the total energy produced comes from fossil fuel; around 14% comes from renewable energy and nuclear sector. In this situation, it is essential to find innovative methods to reduce the consumption of the electric power from fossil fuel and increase the deployment of renewable energy systems.

We are already working on adopting certain innovative methods to convert certain important segments for improving the efficiency of the electric power usage from fossil fuel and increase the use of renewable energy systems.

For example, India has 900 million mobile users, and 250,000 lakh cell phone towers, which consumes nearly 2 billion litres of diesel for power. If we convert these installations into solar powered systems, we save about 1.7 billion dollars and offset 5 million tonnes of CO2 emission and gain carbon credit. Next, if we transform all our 600,000 villages where 700 million people live, into solar powered homes and street lights, we may offset around 60% of fossil fuel usage in that sector.

Mission for IIM Shillong: All you students and members from IIM Shillong have to become ambassadors of such a green mission for the state, the nation and the planet. Can you transform Meghalaya into a Carbon Neutral State?

My lecture will finally lead you to that. You see so many cars and trucks moving on the roads everyday, towards Shillong and away from it. Each liter of fuel they burns adds about 2.3 kg of CO2 to the atmosphere. Similarly, in the world, we are adding over 30 billion tonnes of CO2 to the atmosphere every year. At this rate, we may soon hit a point of no return, and we will be forced to migrate to another planet or its satellite. What can we all do to ensure our mother planet, Earth, the cradle of life, is not rendered unfit for living?
Let me give you a mission. It may be a ten year mission to transform Meghalaya into a Carbon neutral state in India.

These are some of the innovative methods to reduce the consumption of fossil fuel usage and increase the deployment of renewable energy sources. I hope these steps will lead us towards achieving energy independence in a much faster way.

What connects the world?

Friends, for promoting universal peace and prosperity, we need to identify what are the fundamental parameters which connect nations into one unified platform, what tools which enable such connectivity and what specific agendas are needed to bring the world together. Such fundamental parameters include environment, trade and economics, security, health and education of the humanity. These four parameters connect the world with a compounding positive effect, meaning that well being of one nation on these parameters imply the well being of every other nation as well. Let us discuss these four parameters.

Economy and Trade: The second factor which connects the world is economies and trade. Today, the merchandize trade across world is worth about $19 trillion/year and the growing services trade is valued at over $4.2 trillion/year. In fact, with over one-third of the world population India and China are rated by WTO as the fastest growing importers (China 9.7%, India 6.6%) as well as the fastest growing exporters (India 16.1%, China 9.2%). Interestingly, the fastest growing manufacturers are also the rapidly growing markets. This is the connectivity of the economy and it binds the world in many ways as we have already seen in the past.

Security: The third issue which is a matter of global togetherness is the aspect of security and hence promotion of sustained peace is a pre-requisite to economic development. In 1945, post the World War II the United Nations was established to avert large scale inter-state conflict. In spite of such an organization, there has been continued conflicts, threats and damages and resulting into wars. The international institution is ripe for re-organization encompassing proper representation in the Security Council and removing its veto power.

Meanwhile, the numbers of intra-state conflicts, organized terrorism and proxy wars are phenomena on the rise in the entire globe. With the spread of the world information backbone in the form of the internet, there is also a growing issue of addressing cyber crimes and cyber terrorism which can aim at crippling critical services. Nations are coming together to address these issues on a variety of scale.
Recently, we saw how a historic avenue of tension has been brought near resolution with the agreement on nuclear proliferation and lifting of economic sanctions in Iran. I am sure such efforts are significant in making our world peaceful.

Human Development in the Form of Health and Education for All: Friends, today we are in an era of multinational research and multinational product design and marketing. An invention made today somewhere takes no time to find its market thousands of miles away. When designers, developers, researchers, marketers, buyers, sellers and investors are all global, the international interest is in the development of quality workforce globally, often to suit the local market context too. Hence, education and skill development is an issue which brings the world together.

In the healthcare area, in early 20th century, Polio was the major disease emerging; this led to the Great Race for a vaccine against polio across the globe in various institutions and resulted a vaccine in 1950s, which has found solution for the problem. Now it is a time for finding a solution for solving the problem Malaria, HIV/AIDS and Diabetes.

Challenges and unifying forces of humanity

In the world history, there are several instances which have demonstrated that nations get united when they find a common urge and threat such as: Indian Freedom movement, Chinese revolution and the formation of European Union. Now, time has come to find such a common urge and threat for compelling the humanity to live in peace and prosperity as a global community in a clean world.
World Vision 2030: liveable planet earth

How to bring the nation?s prosperity through economic grwoth and simultaneously assuring peace to nation? What is the unique vision that will replace military superiority between and among nations? I have a feeling that we need a great vision, higher than individuals, ideologies, party affiliation, political ambitions and the present technological superiority. Dear friends, can we visualize what it should be?

The humanity needs a great vision to forget all the conflicts and move towards a common goal of peace and prosperity for all the global citizens. We visualize the birth of world vision leading to "livable planet earth". This vision will be greater than any other vision so far envisioned by the humanity.

I think there cannot be a greater vision for the nations other than transforming our "Planet earth liveable". That means, are we leaving a sustainable world where we have taken less from nature than what we have given to it? As long as there are inequities of development between urban and rural areas; between neighbourhoods; in sharing valuable resources, peace will elude us. Particularly, modern technology has made the world a global village. Hence tolerance for inequities will also come down. We have to use the same technology to bring global progress with a vision to achieve the same with consistent missions and programmes. Hence, while creating wealth in the classical sense we need to find new opportunities to serve the knowledge society in ways hitherto not imagined.

The solution may be to find products for more than 7 billion people of the world so that the whole world will own up business. We will have to find newer methods of cooperation so that core competence of even remote villages can be synergized for competitive products. With such a thought process, I discussed with my colleagues and formulated the possible distinctive development profile of the nations of the world in 2030 as follows.

Distinctive profile for the Nations of the World in 2030

A world of nations where the divide between rural and urban, rich and the poor, developed and developing has narrowed down.

A world of nations where there is an equitable distribution and adequate access to energy and quality water.

A world where core competencies of each nation are identified. Missions synergizing the core competencies of different nations lead to economic advantage and faster development for all the societies.

A world of nations where all the students of all societies are imparted education with value system.
A world of nations where affordable quality health care is available to all.

A world of nations where the governance is responsive, transparent and corruption free.

A world of nations where crimes against women and children are absent and none in the society feels alienated.

A world in which every nation is able to give a clean green environment to all its citizens.
A world that is prosperous, healthy, secure, devoid of terrorism, peaceful and happy and continues with a sustainable growth path.

A world of nations with creative leadership who ensure effective mechanisms to resolve conflicts between nations and societies in a timely manner keeping overall peace and prosperity of the world as a goal.

Message to the world leaders in the year 2030

THE MESSAGE TO THE WORLD LEADERS IN THE YEAR 2030 IS, "THE NATIONS ARE ONE WAY OR THE OTHER, FOR CENTURIES, SURVIVED BASED ON CONFLICTS, BE IT NATIONAL, REGIONAL AND GLOBAL. THERE IS AN ELEMENT OF FRUSTRATION, AMONG NATIONS NOW ABOUT THESE CONFLICTS THEMSELVES, AND THE PEOPLE WOULD LIKE TO LIVE IN PEACE. IF WE GO INTO DETAILS, I HAVE COME TO THE CONCLUSION; EVERY NATION NEEDS A MISSION BIGGER THAN ITS PEOPLE, BIGGER THAN THE NATION. CAN THE WORLD LEADERS THROUGH G8 AND G20, EVOLVE AND PRESENT A GREATER VISION WHERE THE NATION WILL BE BUSY AND COMMITTED, WORK GLOBALLY, REGIONALLY AND NATIONALLY RESULTING IN CONFLICT FREE, PEACEFUL, PROSPEROUS SOCIETIES OF THE WORLD.

What is the one cause which will unite regions, nations and the world and facilitate a happy, harmonious living apart from being productive? I would like to present my experience of evolving one such vision which will unify many nations to come together and work for the sustainability of the earth and the humanity.

World Knowledge Platform for Global Action

With the experience of World Knowledge Platform which brings the global cooperation, benefiting the regional prosperity thereby enriching the national prosperity, I visualize the missions that will bring unity to achieve peace and prosperity globally. For such a solution, World Knowledge Platform for Global Action has to emerge as a network of universities, government agencies and industries for participation of policy makers, students, academia and entrepreneurs. It should focus on the solution path of identifying global problems, researching solutions in a multinational manner, delivering through local cooperation and enterprise based approach in the long term for sustainability. It needs to be funded as an international cooperative venture which about $ US 4 billion over the next five years with dedicated spending to developing customizable and scalable solutions.

I believe, the following threats and opportunities need to be addressed by this World Knowledge Platform for Global Action:

The first global threat is the global environment degradation and climate change, which is threatening the world of nations. What will be the global solution? I believe, achieving Energy Independence globally with the regional cooperation may bring the optimal solution to this threat. It is essential to evolve right perspectives on realizing the Energy Independence vision by 2030 graduating from Energy Security. The basic foundation for achieving energy independence has to be built on the principles of environmental impact mitigation, selecting the right energy mix directly linked to the sustainable economic growth of the nation keeping the democratic dimensions in mind and the use of 5th fuel namely constantly improving energy efficiency in an integrated way, finally harnessing the space solar power for 24/7 using space solar mission. About $ US 1 billion over 5 years needs to be dedicated to the development of feasible and commercially viable solutions in this domain.

The Second threat is Trade deficit and Global economic recession, which is affecting many nations including India too. The economies of Brazil, Russia, India and China grew at a furious pace for much of the past decade and looked like they would beat even the most optimistic of forecasts which needs to be reinforced further. In such a scenario, my suggestion is to evolve regional cooperation based on the core competencies of the collaborating nations to work on the missions of Energy, Water, Healthcare, Infrastructure and employment generation. About $ US 750 million over 5 years needs to be dedicated to the development of economic systems which are equitable, just and robust for the global nations in this domain.

The third threat is Poverty, in spite of all the growth, 3 billion people of the world need their quality of life to be improved, uplifted from poverty and to provide right employment while the development reaches them directly. We need to evolve a Sustainable Development System which will enhance the employment potential and empower all the sectors of rural economy, using the well tested model established in India, called PURA (Providing Urban Amenities in Rural Areas). About $ US One billion over 5 years needs to be dedicated to the development of PURA as an enterprise model for global rural community of 3 billion humans.

If these three threats to the humanity are addressed with right solutions, which will reduce the effect of terrorism and will bring confluence of civilization. This will reduce the menace of terrorism. The global intelligence, global surveillance, global communication can be achieved through cooperation which will be enhancing the global security, regional safety and promote global peace. About $ US 750 million over 5 years needs to be dedicated to the development of ideas and innovations which can holistically solve the issues of global security from the grass root level problem of armed resistance rising out of lack of tolerance, geo-politics, natural resources, lack of equity or religious and cultural divides.

Youth dynamics is the greatest opportunity available to the nations, since the ignited minds of the youth is more powerful resource on the earth, above the earth and under the earth. This should create a global human resource cadre and global young entrepreneur cadre who will work for world vision 2030. About $ US 500 million over 5 years needs to be dedicated to the development of linkages amongst the global youth on aspects of research, world peace and tolerance.

The world leaders meet should lead to the seeding of programmes of World Knowledge Platform for Global Action with international partnerships. This may result in accelerated realization of harmony of civilization and prosperity for all.

Conclusion

So far, I have discussed about global vision, its component and how each nation is vital in the mission to realize them. I wish to share some more ideals on Righteousness of the heart of the human being leads to a perfect life of an enlightened citizen. When I visit divine places in India, I realize how righteousness in the heart is propagated as our civilizations strength. Let me recite the hymn :
Righteousness in the heart

Where there is righteousness in the heart

There is beauty in the character.

When there is beauty in the character,

There is harmony in the home.

When there is harmony in the home.

There is an order in the nation.

When there is order in the nation,

There is peace in the world.

Friends, hence, what the nations of the world need are the combination of a World vision 2030 and righteousness in the heart of every citizen and every leader for realizing green, clean environment without pollution, having prosperity without poverty, peace without fear of war and a happy place to live for all citizens of the nations of the world.

My best wishes to all the participants of this course for success in their mission.

May God bless you!.
